The Greater Lafayette community deserves the best efforts by public safety leadership to create a thriving and welcoming community. The quality of life in the Greater Lafayette community benefits and is enhanced by the cooperation of the area leaders in all aspects of government, industry, private business, and citizenry.

It is our job to earn the respect of community members and work to develop relationships. It is our duty to give our best efforts as we provide public safety support to the public. But, it is all our responsibility as a community to focus and work together for Greater Lafayette.

Meet Chief Galloway

Chief Scott Galloway is a 25-year veteran of the Lafayette Police Department. He oversees a department of more than 120 sworn officers and more than 55 civilian positions.

Oldest of his siblings, Chief Galloway was raised in DeMotte, Indiana, a small town, located in northern Jasper County. He graduated from high school in 1993, briefly attended Kankakee Junior College as a scholarship baseball player, and graduated with a degree in Law and Society from Purdue University in 1998.

After graduation, Chief Galloway settled in Tippecanoe County and joined the Lafayette Police Department in July 1998. He rose through the ranks while working various patrol, investigative and administrative assignments throughout the City of Lafayette.

Beginning as a police officer, Chief Galloway was selected to the Detective Division in 2006, working as a criminal investigator and polygraph examiner for ten years until he was promoted to Sergeant in 2016. The following year he was promoted to Lieutenant of Administration and Patrol in 2017, and to Captain of Patrol in 2019.

Chief Gallowayโ€™s experience includes several specialty positions in the Crisis Intervention Team, Major Crimes Intervention Unit, Certified Instructor, Mobile Field Force, and Fatal Alcohol Crash Team Investigator.

In 2010, Chief Galloway received his masterโ€™s degree from Purdue University in organizational leadership and supervision. He continues his involvement with the university today as an adjunct professor of criminology.

On March 21 2022, Scott Galloway was sworn in by the Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski as the 28th Chief of Police of the City of Lafayette.

Chief Galloway brings a wealth of experience to the City of Lafayette and is committed to community involvement. Under his leadership, the police department improved technology resources, provides career development training for staff, and is actively engaged in the community. He has introduced several initiatives to engage hiring in the midst of hiring crisis and mass retirements, new civilian positions to assist the department, as well as transitioning to a new Public Safety Center.

Along with his passion for the Lafayette Police agency, Scott currently serves on the Hanna Community Center board of directors and has served on the Red Cross Board of Directors.
