Lafayette, Indiana: Four Tanker Train Derailment

Late on June 22nd, the Harrison Street Bridge re-opened, from the LPD report:

As of 11 p.m., EST, the Harrison Bridge is now open for traffic between Lafayette and West Lafayette. Southbound Canal Road will remain closed due to the derailment. Further updates will be shared when new information is made available. Again, we appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.

On June 22nd, 2024, as reported by the Purdue Exponent and WLFI, four tanker cars were involved in a derailment underneath the Harrison Street Bridge.

In a press release, Lafayette Police indicated that four train cars were involved. Those cars hit bridge supports causing its closure. Two of the four train cars were carrying hazardous materials, but no leaks have been identified.

Best Lafayette was able to capture some pictures of the scene around 7pm on June 22nd.
