Interestingly, the policy updates for the West Lafayette Police department deal with softening the rules around tattoos. Previously, the policy stated that all tattoos, body art, intentional scarring, or dental ornamentation were prohibited from being displayed.

The changes state that they must be concealed until approval is received.

The approval will come from the newly formed Tattoo Review Committee, which will comprise of (3) sworn department members and (2) members of the West Lafayette community appointed by the Chief of Police.

All sworn personnel will also be required to undergo an annual Mental Wellness Visit.

And finally, the Chief Police can no longer request a heart scan, but personnel can voluntarily elect to have one and submit the invoice to the Office Manager. It would be interesting to learn more details about why this policy change is being implemented.
